The TERRA AMADA initiative, created by the Architecture School of CATÓLICA - Viseu, focuses on the development of voluntary actions in a worksite-school, open to the participation of architecture students and young architects, both Portuguese and foreign, with the objective of carrying out preservation and rehabilitation interventions in rural villages, which the local communities identify as essential to meet their most pressing needs, in particular with regard to improving quality of life, conserve and rehabilitate the tangible and intangible heritage (linked to traditional arts and crafts) and contribute to local development.

Terra Amada has also the intention to foster students’ awareness to the issues related to the territorial development of rural areas and the importance of social and territorial cohesion, as well as give them the opportunity to work directly with the traditional processes, techniques and building materials, while contributing in a practical and visible way to improve the quality of life of the community where they will dwell and work during the intervention.
